In an effort to support all intersectional identities within SWE, we host a variety of events like our SWE&I talks and town hall-like discussions to provide a safe space for people to talk about their identities and how they impact their perspective as engineers. We also have an E&I Working Body (EIB) that collaborates with different members and representatives in the College of Engineering to identify aspects of SWE that need to be improved to better support underrepresented marginalized groups. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact: America (americacastaneda5@berkeley.edu), Mia (miadelarosa1@berkeley.edu), or Vivian (vivian.chung@berkeley.edu)
Our first talk will be how to avoid a toxic mindset before midterms! Around this time, there are a lot of negative comparisons taking place, and these comparisons tend to take a stronger negative toll on minority groups. In these talks, we will delve into how we can do better in understanding and supporting people that are in minority groups, making SWE a more inclusive and welcoming space.
SWE&I Talk #2: Masking Autism and ADHDIn this SWE&I talk, we will be discussing how ADHD and Autism can look different on women.
SWE&I Talk #3: Internalized HomophobiaThis talk will explore how internalized homophobia can impact individuals and how we can combat it within ourselves and the community.
SWE&I Talk #4: Topic TBDStay tuned for more details on our fourth talk, focusing on relevant issues for the SWE community.
Destress Event: SnowpeopleJoin us for a fun destress event where we'll be making "snowpeople"! Come relax and create something fun.
